Three healthcare assistants at Kettering General Hospital have won ROSE Awards for delivering outstanding care and support.

ROSE stands for Recognising Our Staff Excellence (ROSE) and celebrates care delivered by staff where they show empathy, compassion, and dedication, that goes beyond the normal call of duty.

Colleagues who can be nominated include clinical healthcare support workers, allied health professions (AHPs), such as therapists, operating department practitioners, and radiographers. The awards also include pharmacists, scientists, and other non-nursing or non-medical clinical registrants.

Ellie Seamarks is a Healthcare Assistant on the HC Pretty wards andwas nominated by three of her colleagues based on the outstanding patient care they see her regularly deliver. Part of the nomination reads:

“Ellie provides model care, always motivating patients to regain their independence and has always aided the therapies team to progress patients’ rehabilitation on the ward. Ellie always works with kindness and compassion. Ellie is a brilliant advocate for early mobilisation and is a reliable champion of our therapy recommendations”.

Patrick Tarwirei with his ROSE AwardHealthcare Assistant Patrick Tarwirei in the Urology Centre was nominated by Rab, a patient who was undergoing diagnostic tests.

Rab wanted to thank Patrick the nomination reads: “I underwent some very personal studies and intimate procedures which can easily feel undignified. Patrick, along with Patience, helped me to feel relaxed and distracted from what was actually taking place. I think he deserves an award for his easy, pleasant manner and his ability to make a rather unpleasant procedure pass without too much embarrassment”.

Michelle (Shelley) Colson is aHealthcare Assistant in Rheumatology and was nominated by her patient Kathleen.

Michelle Colson receiving her ROSE Award Kathleen has been regularly attending the Rheumatology clinic, with Michelle being a welcoming face on each time. Kathleen’s nomination talks about Michelle’s excellent patient care: “Shelley is polite, courteous and caring, and very knowledgeable within the clinic environment. If the clinic is running late, she will explain that to patients and this keeps everyone informed. Shelley just has the right temperament to be recognised for her welcoming, comforting manner.

I was at the clinic one day and it was running over an hour late, she offered drinks to all patients in the waiting room, it brightened up the waiting room just with this small act of kindness.”

KGH Director for Allied Health Professionals, Prof Ganesh Baliah said: “Patrick, Michelle and Ellie have all been nominated for their commitment to patient care, ensuring that the patients have a positive experience while they’re with us. It always to satisfying to read the nominations and it’s appreciated when patients or colleagues take the time to nominate members of our team. Congratulations on these well-deserved ROSE Awards.”
