Celebration of Colleagues Long Service Event 2024
Once a year, UHN holds a Celebration of Service event to mark long service milestones. In April, the University Hospitals of Northamptonshire (UHN) Executive Team held afternoon tea events at both Kettering General Hospital (KGH) and Northampton General Hospital (NGH) to celebrate with colleagues who have reached NHS long service milestones during 2023.
The first and primary milestone is marked at 25 years continuous NHS service. UHN have secondary milestones at 30 years, 35 years, 40 years, 45 years and 50 years continuous years’ service.
On Monday 15 April at KGH, 102 colleagues enjoyed a nostalgic afternoon tea in the Recreation Hall. At NGH in the Cripps Centre on Thursday 25 April, 90 colleagues enjoyed a wonderful afternoon tea supplied by Eat Street and the catering team
Executives including UHN Chief Executive Richard Mitchell and Paula Kirkpatrick UHN Chief People Officer presented colleagues with mementos celebrating their NHS service milestones.
Together the hospitals had 192 colleagues with continuous NHS long service including:
19 with more than 40 years of service
64 with more than 30 years
109 with more than 25 years
At Kettering General Hospital 102 staff have served the NHS for 2,920 years and at Northampton General Hospital 90 staff have served for 2,650 years.
Richard Mitchell, our Group CEO thanked and congratulated colleagues on their dedication of service to the NHS and thanked them for their commitment, contribution and the devotion they have shown to our hospitals.
“It was a tremendous privilege to mark the incredible service so many of our amazing colleagues have given to the NHS and their local communities. Hospitals are enormously complex organisations and consist of a huge variety of roles – all of which are essential in providing care and support to local people. Spending time with colleagues who were reaching significant milestones really brought it home to me just how many of our colleagues devote the best part, or indeed all, of their working lives to supporting our patients, or their own colleagues, in so many different ways.
“I want to take this opportunity to publicly thank them all for the contribution they each have made to the NHS, and to our hospitals, over the last five decades.”
Next year, UHN will be celebrating once more, with an event in March 2025 to celebrate those colleagues who achieved one of the service milestones during 2024.
