Head and Neck Service

The Northamptonshire Head and Neck Service is delivered by a countywide team that provides care to the patients of Northamptonshire. Services are provided collaboratively, across the University Hospitals of Northamptonshire UHN, which are located at Kettering General Hospital Foundation Trust (KGH) and Northampton General Hospital Trust (NGH).  Head and Neck 1

The Northamptonshire Head and Neck Service vision is:

“To create a single countywide integrated Head and Neck Centre of Excellence that comprises Audiology, Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT), Maxillofacial and Orthodontic units, considering patient needs and future service trends. The service will be designed without reference to organisational boundaries and will serve the interests of both Trusts within the group model”

The aim of the service is to provide a safe, high-quality care for our patients. The priorities for the service, set out within our strategy, are to:

  • Provide a consistent emergency inpatient service, 7 days a week, led by consultants to reduce hospital stays
  • Establish a cancer centre of excellence which offers new and innovative treatments, such as robotic surgery, delivered by a specialist team
  • Provide a range of day case services and increase sub-specialisation, at KGH and NGH, improving clinical outcomes for patients
  • Train more specialist nurses, to support clinics and on-call services, at both KGH and NGH
  • Design and implement a countywide referral and booking hub, to enable our patients to have equitable access to services, no matter where they live in the county
  • Move care closer to home, in the community, by providing hearing tests and ENT clinics in the community by working closely with GPs
  • Improve access to national and international research trials, for our patients, to provide more advanced care
  • Nurture and grow a single highly skilled team, to provide specialist services and offer increased access to education and training opportunities
