Learning Disability, Autism, Dementia and Delirium Strategies 2026-2029
At University Hospitals of Northamptonshire (UHN), we are committed to providing inclusive, compassionate and person-centred care for people with a learning disability, autistic people, and those living with dementia and/or delirium. These strategies set out our vision to reduce health inequalities, improve patient experiences and ensure that every individual receives the support, understanding and reasonable adjustments they need when accessing our services. The strategies have been developed using feedback from patients, families, carers, people with lived experience, staff and national best practice guidance.
Over the next three years, we will focus on improving early identification of needs, strengthening communication and the use of reasonable adjustments, increasing staff knowledge and confidence, and ensuring families and carers are recognised as valued partners in care. We will continue to develop more accessible and supportive healthcare environments, improve care pathways and discharge planning, and work closely with community partners, advocates and local networks to co-produce meaningful improvements.
Our aim is to create a culture where every member of staff understands their role in delivering equitable care, where patients feel listened to, respected and supported, and where families and carers are actively involved in decision-making. Through these strategies, UHN will continue to build on existing good practice while driving forward improvements that help people achieve better health outcomes and have the best possible experience of care.
