Frequently asked questions

What is the energy centre and why is it so important?

The hospital’s current source of energy consists of temporary steam generators. A new Energy Centre is long overdue and will enable us to deliver more sustainable and reliable energy to heat and provide hot water for our hospital.

Works will also include an upgraded electrical supply to the site which will replace the existing supply cable and infrastructure which have reached their maximum capacity. As part of the programme, one of the many benefits will be an increase in EV chargers on site for staff to charge their cars.  The Energy Centre is a key enabler for us delivering our New Hospital Programme.

Will the new energy centre help Kettering General Hospital to deliver a net zero NHS?

Kettering General Hospital has been making considerable advances that have contributed to the improved carbon footprint and reduced environmental impact of our services, such as lighting upgrades and refurbishment of existing building stock, food waste recycling and others.

The Energy Centre and district heating network proposals will alone achieve 41% of Net Zero NHS Carbon target, making it a large step along the site's journey to net carbon zero.
