The story so far ...
We await the outcome of the New Hospital Programme review, which aims to consider the options for putting on to a realistic, deliverable and affordable footing. This review has been requested by the Chancellor of the Exchequer and the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care and will be jointly led and resourced across the Department of Health and Social Care , NHS England and HM Treasury .
The government announced its hospital rebuilding programme in October 2019. Since then we have been working on our proposals and plans for how KGH can be redeveloped.
We produced a short video describing our Development Control Plan and our preferred way forward that outlines the relationship between our plans and available funding.
In advance of our new hospital buildings a number of enabling works are needed to prepare for the redevelopment – for example the construction of a new energy centre, changes to car parking facilities and temporary buildings for displaced services. Rather than submit individual planning applications for these works the Trust can apply for a Local Development Order to the planning authority which enables broad agreement to these works in the form of permitted development rights which allow us to proceed.
