Estates development

Our View: 2030 Estates Vision sets out our plan to deliver a technologically advanced hospital estate that offers additional service capacity and clinical enhancements. Our new energy centre will be built and completed Summer 2026 and this will ensure that our hospital achieves net zero carbon emissions and can support our current demand and the growing demand of our future new hospital programme.   

Kettering General Hospital NHS Foundation Trust aspires to be become one of the greenest NHS Trusts in the UK. Our Green plan sets out our vision for becoming a more sustainable organisation and delivering on the NHS Net Zero carbon reduction targets. Whilst some progress has already been made in reducing our carbon footprint, we know there is much to do to achieve net zero carbon and become a truly sustainable and more environmentally aware organisation; this plan is the start of the journey.

What are we committed to doing?  

To achieve our vision, we have set ourselves the following objectives.

  1. To demonstrate as an organisation our corporate obligation and commitment to carbon reduction
  2. To raise our profile and enhance our reputation as an organisation aspiring to become one of the greenest Trusts in the UK   
  3. Comply with and exceed existing regulations whilst being prepared for new and ever more stringent regulations, legislation, and best practice   
  4. Lead by example by influencing staff, patients and visitors who come onto our hospital sites as well as the people of Northamptonshire and organisations we do business with
  5. To embed carbon management and sustainability into all policies, plans and decision making across every aspect of the Trust and with all staff
  6. To work in partnership with key stakeholders to develop and implement low carbon technologies and waste reduction measures
  7. To leverage resources and external funding to accelerate our decarbonisation and waste reduction programme2 through continuous improvements in energy efficiency, waste management and segregation and sustainable travel and procurement.
