On Sunday 29 January 2023, Medical Same Day Emergency Care and Children’s Emergency department will be switching locations.

Our Children’s Emergency Department (ED) will move to the where our Medical Same Day Emergency Care (MSDEC) is currently located and our MSDEC will move to the area currently occupied by the Children’s ED.

The reason for the move is in response to the growing number of Children attending our department and their requirement for a bigger area. Find out more

The Paediatric (Children’s) Emergency Department treats children and young people under the age of 18 who need accident or emergency care.

The Paediatric Emergency Department enables our staff to meet the needs of our patients while ensuring children and young people, up to the age of 18, are seen in a physically separate environment from the main Emergency Department.

All patients are clinically assessed upon arrival and seen in priority order based on clinical need.

The Paediatric Emergency Department enables a direct route onto Skylark Ward for those children and young people needing hospital admission.

Paediatric Emergency Department is based on the ground floor of the Foundation Wing, in the area formerly occupied by Paediatric outpatients, located close to the hospital’s main reception and is completely separate from the main A&E department.
