The Centenary Wing is a purpose built unit comprising of both an outpatient and treatment facility.
The unit specialises in the care of oncology patients requiring treatment for malignant disease (cancer diagnosis) and haematology patients who require treatment for both malignant and non-malignant diagnosis.
One of the main treatments provided within this unit is chemotherapy with specialist trained staff supporting service provision and patient care.
Chemotherapy Services Supportive Treatment Unit (CSSTU)
In addition to Centenary Wing, patients will also be seen on our sister unit the Chemotherapy Services Supportive Treatment Unit (CSSTU) which is based on the fourth floor of the main ward block and also provides supportive treatment care and administration for the same patient caseload.
In addition it provides a nurse led service for both patients attending Centenary Wing and CSSTU for treatment, and those receiving oral treatments in a community setting.
Systemic Anti Cancer Treatments (SACT)
Supportive Treatment, such as blood transfusion etc
The unit is supported by both haematologists and oncologists. The oncology medical provision is provided through agreement with the local Cancer Centre at Northampton General Hospital. Haematology Consultants are based at the hospital. You may also be seen by Specialist Registrars or specialist trained nursing staff.
The unit has its own specialist workforce of chemotherapy nurses that work across both Centenary Wing, CSSTU and in conjunction with the inpatient facility on Lilford Ward. In addition, our patients are supported by the tumour site specialist teams as appropriate to the care that the patients are receiving.
