Ultrasound Radiology Department

We perform a wide variety of diagnostic examinations and provide ultrasound imaging for all wards, departments, outpatient clinics and GP referrals.

Our specialist team is committed to delivering a high level of patient care. Our clinical staff consists of radiologists, sonographers and clinical support staff and occasionally students.

All patients attending the department for an Ultrasound scan will have received a copy of the Ultrasound information leaflet with their appointment letter.

Ultrasound scans are undertaken in the Radiology Department at the Kettering General Hospital or at one of its satellite units at Corby Urgent Care or Nene Park Hospital. Your appointment can, therefore, be at any of these sites. It is very important to check your letter to ensure you attend your appointment at the correct site and time.

For appointments for Kettering General Hospital, please register and book at the Main Radiology reception desk. If the reception desk is closed please go direct to the ultrasound waiting room.

For appointments at Corby Urgent Care and Nene Park Hospital, please register and book at the X-Ray reception desk.

It is important that patients follow any given instructions and arrive on time for their appointments. Late arrivals may not be seen.

Our Services

Ultrasound is a painless and non-invasive procedure that utilises high-frequency sound waves to create images of the internal structures of the body. It involves a handheld probe being placed onto your skin and moved over the area of interest. Lubricating gel is put onto your skin first, to help move the probe around smoothly.

Our specialist imaging services include:

  • Abdominal scans
  • Renal scans
  • Pelvic scans (internal transvaginal and transabdominal)
  • Musculoskeletal (MSK) scans
  • Paediatric Scans
  • Carotid and deep vein thrombosis (DVT) vascular scans
  • Thyroid/Neck scans
  • Testes scans
  • Interventional ultrasound scans

What to bring to your appointment

If you are diabetic and need to take your medications; please bring along with some food and drink.

What to wear when coming to your appointment

If possible, please wear loose comfortable clothes, as you may be able to wear these during the Ultrasound. Try to avoid wearing jewellery and clothes containing metal (such as zips), as these will need to be removed and you will be provided with a gown.
