Haematology Department

Types of services offered by the laboratory

The routine haematology laboratory processes tests from both outpatients and inpatients including automated full blood count and erythrocyte sedimentation rate, cell morphology and haemoglobinopathy investigations.  A large number of other tests are available including screening for infections such as glandular fever and malaria. Other tests are referred elsewhere.

The coagulation laboratory measures aspects of haemostasis including clotting screen and International Normalised Ratio (INR) - a test used to monitor warfarin dosage. More specialist tests including factor assays, lupus anticoagulant, thrombophillia testing and other referred tests are also available.
