Today, (Wednesday 28 May) staff at KGH got their final experience of the high-life as we were visited for one last time by Project Wingman.

Project Wingman began visiting KGH in January 2021, today after six months offering the service; they have made their final visit.

Project Wingman is a charity supporting the NHS. The project is made up of furloughed aircrew from all parts of the aviation industry who visit NHS hospitals across the UK to offer refreshments to hardworking NHS staff.

Project Wingman volunteers Helen and Kris with KGH Volunteer ClaireWe were joined by Helen and Kris, who were accompanied by Claire, a KGH volunteer.
"KGH has been totally different to other Project Wingman venues" says Kris, who is usually cabin crew for EasyJet.

"In other hospitals we would have been based in one area with staff coming to us. Here, we are based outside wards and departments, which means we have seen many different departments and staff"

Kris is joined today by Helen, BA cabin crew.

"KGH is a lovely hospital and getting to serve busy staff, who wouldn't have 30 minutes to see you if we were based in one place. It’s very rewarding" says Helen

Helen has been supporting Project Wingman regularly over the last six months. It's been an eye opener for her about the workings of our hospital.

"When you think of a hospital, you might think of the doctors and nurses who work there. But we've seen teams from across the Trust. From porters to the post room to the volunteers. It's been amazing" says Helen.

Over the past six months the Project Wingman crew have served all departments while keeping to our strict guidelines.

From visiting the porters and domestic staff to those working in our Children's ED, the Project Wingman team have made a huge impact.

"There was one time when we visited Rockingham Wing, but the staff couldn't leave as they were busy looking after the mums-to-be" says Gail, Staff Health and Wellbeing Coordinator. "Quick as a flash Kris took orders from the team, made up the drinks and treats and delivered them to the reception for collection. Such amazing team work".
Thank You Project Wingman

Kris reflects on the last six months of visiting KGH

"The staff have all been so nice, during a very stressful time" says Kris. "it's amazing how they've continued to work and be positive through very stressful times"

Thank you so much for all of the help, support and treats you have given our staff. We are incredibly grateful for the time effort of everyone from Project Wingman.
