ROSE Awards for our outstanding support workers at KGH

Two healthcare assistants and a diagnostic radiographer at Kettering General Hospital have won ROSE Awards for delivering outstanding care and support.
ROSE stands for Recognising Our Staff Excellence (ROSE) and celebrates care delivered by staff where they show empathy, compassion, and dedication, that goes beyond the normal call of duty.
Staff who can be nominated include clinical healthcare support workers, allied health professions (AHPs), such as therapists, operating department practitioners, and radiographers. The awards also include pharmacists, scientists, and other non-nursing or non-medical clinical registrants.
Healthcare Assistant Ellie Silver in planned care was nominated by her manager Lara Pilgrim.
Part of her nomination reads: “Ellie always goes above and beyond with all the patients within planned care. Her outstanding care, thoughtfulness and patience are second to none. We recently had a patient who had dementia and Ellie took the time to sit with the patient and get an understanding of the situation, she then went to the library to get a memory box for the patient to occupy them, in a busy environment something so small made the patient calm and relaxed. This is just one of the many things that Ellie does to ensure patient comfort and safety. We all need an Ellie. “
Healthcare Assistant on Twywell Ward, Toni Hancox, was nominated by both a patient and by her Matron Alice Chambers.
The patient’s nomination reads: “Toni is the most caring, loving healthcare assistant in Twywell. She goes out of her way to make sure myself and other patients are well cared for and treated with the upmost respect. Her care values are a credit to this hospital. My stay was unforgettable, and she even does our hairs with her own products, and nothing is ever too much for her.”
Alice wrote: “Toni Is a dedicated and passionate HCA that provides excellent care. I have witnessed Toni sitting out with the ladies around a table either playing bingo /cards or just chatting. The patients adore her and many relatives have commented on how lovely she is and makes a difference to their family member. “
Diagnostic Radiographer Judith Armstrong was nominated by her patient John Bosworth who wrote how she helped overcome his fear of having an air tube fitted prior to a procedure.
Mr Bosworth, who attended the presentation, said: “I knew it was in my best interest to have the procedure, but it was my worst nightmare. Jude carefully explained everything and looked after me throughout and supported me. I honestly don't think I could have tolerated the procedure without her help. She showed such kindness, patience and empathy, staying with me all the time. I returned three days later to give her a little box of biscuits to show my gratitude and could have wept when she said that she had thought about my welfare for the rest of that particular day. Jude really is an angel and I sincerely thank her.”
KGH Director for Allied Health Professionals, Prof Ganesh Baliah said: “Ellie, Toni, and Judith all clearly go above and beyond to support their patients as these nominations show.
“Their care, empathy and attention to detail make their patients’ hospital experience so much easier for them. I am delighted to see that all three have received their well-deserved ROSE Awards.”
