Dr Ahmed Mukhtar, a respected consultant paediatrician and former medical director of Kettering General Hospital, died on 7th January 2021 after a short illness.

 

He joined the hospital in 1982 as a consultant and lead clinician for neonatal care, and served his local community for 23 years in that role.

Kettering General Hospital (KGH) has completed its contribution to a major ongoing national research trial to see if Bio-Detection dogs can sniff out coronavirus in humans.

 

A total of 200 KGH staff have now taken part in the work to determine whether dogs can be used as a rapid, non-invasive way of detecting the virus.

A nurse who has served her local community for 45 years – including playing an important part in developing Kettering General Hospital’s endoscopy service - has retired.

Kettering General Hospital is spending £1m to extend the capacity of two of its medical wards with a temporary building.

Local doctors are urging former Kettering and Northampton General Hospital patients who have had Covid-19 to donate blood plasma for a treatment trial.

Kettering General Hospital Respiratory Consultant, Dr Raja Reddy, and KGH Consultant Anaesthetist, Dr Pawan Kumar, want patients to donate their plasma using a new NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) donation centre recently established in Northampton.

 

Kettering General Hospital has completed an £800,000 refurbishment of its short-stay medical assessment unit to help meet the challenges of Winter during the Covid-19 pandemic.

 

Middleton Assessment Unit – also known as MAU – was closed on October 20 with its work taken on by another ward until it reopened for business on December 15.
