Kettering General Hospital has opened a £185,000 new Paediatric Outpatients Clinic on its main Kettering site suitable for face-to-face consultations with children and their parents.

Over the last year face-to-face paediatric outpatients’ services have been delivered from the hospital’s outlying sites at Nene Park, Irthlingborough, and Nuffield Diagnostic Centre, Corby, rather than the main KGH site.

This was because the former Kettering paediatric outpatients area, in the Foundation Wing, was transformed into a paediatric A&E department in response to the  Covid-19 pandemic

Now the hospital has created a new paediatric outpatients clinic close to A&E on the main hospital site. (Note - The paediatric A&E department remains in the Foundation Wing.)

A bereaved Kettering family have raised £11,000 for KGH's Twinkling Stars appeal by selling masks and holding raffles with the support of hundreds of local people.

Georgia and Sam Holland's daughter, Libby, was born 18 weeks prematurely at KGH on March 13, 2020 and sadly passed away shortly after.

One of the main reasons the KGH appeal was launched was to improve bereavement care facilities for families like the Hollands so that they don’t have to share facilities with families who are experiencing the joy of childbirth.

When the Hollands found out about the appeal – which aims to raise £1 million to fund a new bereavement room, family room, quiet room and office separated from the Labour Suite – they wanted to help.

Kettering General Hospital has launched a new way of carrying out prostate biopsies to improve care and reduce waiting and treatment times for patients with suspected prostate cancer.

On March 9 Consultant Urologist Mr Roland England and the urology team carried out the first local anaesthetic transperineal biopsy (LATP*) at the hospital.

This is a procedure where biopsy samples are taken through the perineum using a needle guide and needle. 

Kettering General Hospital has completed work on a £125,000 refurbishment project to create a new Minor Injuries and Minor Illness (MIAMI) area.

The service – in a former outpatients’ clinic area adjacent to A&E – is where patients who have attended A&E, and been found to need minor treatment, will be seen.

It is a major improvement on the old cubicles (both in A&E and outpatients) which have been used to deliver the minors service in recent years.

The service moved into the new unit on March 10 following a seven-week refurbishment of the area.

Local people are being urged to make more use of Corby Urgent Care Centre rather than travelling to Kettering General Hospital’s A&E department.

During the Covid-19 pandemic use of the Cottingham Road centre – which is open every day of the year from 8am-8pm – has dropped significantly.

As a result Corby Urgent Centre, Kettering General Hospital, and East Midlands Ambulance Service, are working together to ensure that appropriate patients do make good use of the centre for urgent but non-life threatening treatment.
