More than 1,400 county residents at risk of serious illness or death from Covid-19 have been treated with antiviral and other specialist medications by Northamptonshire’s hospitals after testing positive for the virus.

Northampton and Kettering general hospitals have both been providing the treatments – either as tablets or intravenous infusions – as part of the national network of Covid Medicines Delivery Units (CMDUs) set up in December 2021.

Staff at Kettering and Northampton general hospitals have been silently scooting into work on e-bikes as part of a green initiative.

A total of 40 staff across the two hospitals have been using the electric-powered cycles – which can be ridden without pedalling - in July and early August to experience e-bikes as part of a council-run scheme to promote them.

A health charity has donated 22 picnic tables to Kettering General Hospital to enable staff to have their breaks outside – as well as benefitting patients and visitors.

The Northamptonshire Health Charity – which supports health trusts across the county – donated £10,000 to fund the tables following a funding request from the hospital’s Health and Wellbeing Group.

The tables – which have their own seating - have been installed across the main hospital site and also at offsite locations in Wellingborough, Corby, Irthlingborough and around the medical records centre in Kettering.

An orthopaedic surgeon and a specialist physiotherapist will be on hand to answer questions about hip pain and fractures in the second major free online health event organised by Kettering General Hospital Governors.

The “Hip, hip, hooray – ways to prevent or manage hip pain” event is being held on  Wednesday September 7 from 6pm-7pm

Kettering General Hospital is calling for local residents to have their say in the future of our hospital by standing for election as a Public Governor. 

Anyone from North Northamptonshire (the Kettering, Corby, Wellingborough, Rushden areas) can stand for election to become a Public Governor in their local area if they are over 16.

We want to attract candidates from all ethnicities, faiths, genders, ages, disabilities and community groups to ensure our local areas are well represented.

We were delighted to welcome the new Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, the Rt Hon Steve Barclay MP, to Kettering General Hospital on July 22, 2022, to learn more about how we are preparing for our hospital rebuild.

The Secretary of State met senior executives at the hospital and received a short presentation on our rebuild plans which are part of the Government’s New Hospital Programme.

NHS Blood and Transplant and Kettering General Hospital have released the figures to mark the publication of the annual Organ Donation and Transplantation Activity Report covering the period April 2021-March 2022.

Kettering General Hospital has invested £1.2m in state-of-the-art x-ray technology to improve patient care.

The Trust has upgraded two of its seven x-ray rooms - one in main x-ray, and one in A&E - to incorporate two £150,000 (each) state-of-the-art machines which will help patients to be seen more quickly and result in higher quality diagnostic images.

From today (Tuesday, July 12) both Kettering and Northampton general hospitals have reintroduced mask-wearing for all staff, patients and visitors, because of a significant increase in Covid-19 infections.

The reintroduction, in all areas of the two hospitals, aims to reduce infection risk to vulnerable patients and help prevent staff absences.
