Our online cancer support event on November 12
The Macmillan Cancer Support Centre at Kettering General Hospital has organised an online cancer information event for people with questions about living with cancer.
The event is on Wednesday, November 12, from 6.30pm to 8pm and anyone can take part by registering for the event on 01536 493888 or email kgh-tr.cancerinfo@nhs.net to get a Teams link.
It will have guests including specialists in cancer support, psychological support, and health and wellbeing, who will all be available to answer questions.
Macmillan Head of Nursing for Cancer Ruth Giles said: “This will be a fantastic event offering an overview of some of the information and support available and accessible to patients and their loved ones offered in a quick and easy way.
“We will be talking about the support we offer both face-to-face and in other ways through our information centre based near main reception at Kettering General Hospital".
“The event will have representatives from Talking Therapies, Look Good Feel Better, Age UK, Lakeland Hospice and Northamptonshire Sport."
“We will also be happy to answer any questions people want to ask on the night or afterwards through the centre itself.”
The centre, which has been operating since May 2022, has supported more than 8,000 individuals with cancer or their family and carers since its launch.
KGH’s Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Manager, Mim Langschova, said: “We provide information and support on emotional, practical and financial support including, living with, and beyond cancer and have an online cancer hub on youtube.
"The Centre hosts Reiki and Reflexology support therapies; leads regular wellbeing walks at Wickstead Park and Rushden Lakes locations; offers access to welfare benefits advice via Citizen Advice as well as a Telephone buddy service, and access to support groups and much more.
“We will help you find the information you need or be able to assist in signposting you to other organizations or agencies who can provide support".
“We really encourage anyone who needs support from us to attend this online event and see just how much is available for people living with cancer.”
In May 2023 the KGH centre achieved the Macmillan Quality Environment Mark (MQEM) scoring top marks (5/5) in all of the areas assessed following feedback from both patients and staff.
Once you contact the KGH service you will receive a response within 72 working hours and may be offered face-to-face 1-2-1 support.
You can also drop-in into the support centre no appointment is necessary during opening hours Monday to Friday 9am and 4pm (except bank holidays).
The centre also provides valuable support for KGH cancer nurses to refer patients on for further advice and information to enhance the clinical care they give providing the wrap around care patients and their carers need.
