Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Centre celebrates its third birthday
Congratulations to our Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Centre which was opened three years ago in January 2022 by Earl Spencer.
On Friday 16 January, the Macmillan team marked this special day with an event open to both the public, colleagues and local charities. This was an opportunity for people to meet, share their stories and network – all over some delicious refreshments and sweet treats.
Mim Langschova is the Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Manager, she said.
“We couldn’t have achieved what we have over the past three years without the support of our colleagues and volunteers.
Since it opened the centre has gone from strength to strength, offering holistic support to those who are trying to make sense of their recent diagnosis.
Through to those who are further along and need help in a wide range of ways – from mental, physical and emotional support.”
The centre offers holistic help. Over the past year they’ve had nearly 3000 interactions with patients and families. This includes initiatives such as weekly coffee mornings, yoga, health and wellbeing walks, look-good feel-good sessions and a telephone buddy system, amongst many other programmes through the year.
Mim added “We have had contact with nearly 3000 interactions with people over the past year. We couldn’t have achieved any of this without the support of Macmillan Cancer Support and Kettering General Hospital.”
The team at the centre also work with other local charities including Mind, The Lewis Foundation and Breast Friends Northamptonshire, alongside fundraising and financial signposting.
The centre is open weekdays between 9am and 4pm and is located opposite Costa at Kettering General Hospital.
