KGH Radio - A community radio station

KGH Radio is a community radio station based within our hospital. Their aim is to bring patients, colleagues, friends and families together through their on-air content.

KGH Radio started broadcasting just before Christmas 2019 from a studio in the lower ground level of the hospital. Last week the studios re-opened after a refurbishment.

Steve Mann is the Station Manager:
“In the words of Simon and Garfunkel ‘Gee but it's great to be back home'” says Steve Mann, KGH Radio Station Manager.

“Having spent several years developing our service and facilities we found ourselves moving to temporary facilities for our refurbishment.

Thanks to superb work by both our engineer and colleagues from the KGH Estates and Facilities department we were able to completely refurbish the studios and upgrade our technical capabilities to a professional level.”

The station began broadcasting from their newly refurbished studios from last Friday.

To celebrate, Steve and his team invited members of our Hospital team to attend a special ribbon cutting, including Debbie Needham our Hospital Chief Executive.

On the feedback KGHRadio receives, Steve said “It is good to get very positive feedback about our service from around KGH – both from patients and colleagues. We look forward to further increasing our reach within the Hospital through the roll-out of smart speakers”.

The station is operated 100% by volunteers and are always looking for new members to support their cause in a number of roles, not just presenters.
