Jubilee celebrations at KGH and NGH
Patients and staff at Kettering and Northampton general hospitals are joining in this week’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
Staff at the hospitals have been busy decorating their areas with Jubilee flags and hand-made decorations as part of a competition for best-dressed ward, department or office space.
Patients at the two hospitals will receive special Jubilee-themed meals and the children of staff members have drawn bold Queen and Jubilee-themed pictures to help us decorate our wards, and win a competition.
Kettering General Hospital’s Chief Executive, Deborah Needham said: “The Queen’s 70th anniversary as our Monarch is a once in a lifetime event and we wanted to support our staff and patients to make it a week to remember.
“The competitions, activities and jubilee themes will help brighten up the hospital and support those who want to celebrate this historic occasion especially our patients who will be in hospital through the bank holiday weekend.”
Northampton General Hospital’s Chief Executive, Heid Smoult, said: “I want to thank everyone who has been involved in organising our celebrations and who have taken part in the competitions.
“Already we can see that these efforts have been much appreciated by all the patients and staff taking part.
“It is great for our hospitals to be part of the national celebrations to mark the Queen’s place as one of the longest-reigning Monarchs in history. “
Our amazing competition winners
The competition for best dress ward, departments and offices was held on Monday (May 30) and all entries had to abide by infection control guidelines.
The winners at KGH were: Naseby B Ward, Corby Outpatients, Nene Outpatients and Glebe Reception. And at NGH were: Joint winners Walter Tull & Esther White wards, Best department, Complaints, and best office, Specialist Palliative Care.
The winners of the children’s pictures competition at KGH were: Under 12’s winner Eliza - Over 12s Edward. At NGH winners were George, aged 2, Rowan, aged 7, and Melody aged 6.
