KGH obs and gynae training 2nd best in UK
Kettering General Hospital has been ranked the second best in the UK for the way it delivers obstetric and gynaecology training to junior doctors.
The ranking comes from the Specialty Education Advisory Committee of the Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists which every year collects data on junior doctor training through special forms.
The forms ask junior doctors a wide variety of questions relating to the field which includes their training in areas such as pregnancy, childbirth, the health of the female reproductive system and the use of ultrasound.
It also covers how their professional development and education is supported, supervised and governed.
KGH Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, Mrs Adeeba Nishtar, is the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists Tutor at KGH.
She said: “We are delighted to now be nationally recognised for our work and rated second best unit in the UK for training and education in gynaecology and obstetrics.
“This would not have been possible without the dedication and hard work of all my consultant colleagues.
“I see quality training and education as an ongoing process producing high quality healthcare specialist and leaders of the future who contribute to patient care, the wider NHS and beyond. “
Mrs Nishtar took over as RCOG Tutor in 2016 and has pursued excellence in her vision of how junior doctors should be trained.
In a letter to the team Dr Jo Mountfield, Chair of RCOG’s Specialty Education Advisory Committee, and Dr Marie O’Sullivan, Vice Chair of Education, Trainees Committee, said: “We are delighted to inform you that Kettering General Hospital NHS Trust is within the top performing units and highly commended for overall performance, gynaecology training and professional development across all four nations based on the feedback from your trainees.
“Many congratulations on this achievement. “
The highest scoring Trust in the country was Antrim Area Hospital in Northern Ireland.
