Department moves: Medical Same Day Emergency Care and Children’s Emergency Department

On Sunday 29 January 2023, Medical SDEC and Children’s Emergency department will be switching locations.

Our Children’s Emergency Department (ED) will move to the where our Medical Same Day Emergency Care (MSDEC) is currently located and our MSDEC will move to the area currently occupied by the Children’s ED.

The reason for the move is in response to the growing number of Children attending our department and their requirement for a bigger area.

To facilitate the move the following will occur:
  • MSDEC will close at 18.00 on Saturday, 28 January at 18:00, with last referral being accepted at 16.00.
  • On Sunday, 29 January MSDEC operate from the Frailty SDEC area in ED until the move is completed later that day.
  • There will be no impact on the Planned Care service which will continue to operate in the clinic rooms adjacent to ED MIAMI area.  This service will therefore remain in its existing location.

Both departments will still be open during the move.

I need to attend Children’s ED on the day of the move what will happen?
  • Please attend Children’s ED as usual, following the appropriate signage to the new location
Our local partners, such as the East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS) and GP colleagues are aware of the move.

We would like to thank you for your patience during this move.
