DAISY leader awards for outstanding colleagues
A Kettering General Hospital midwifery sIster and a practice development nurse have received DAISY Leader awards after being nominated for them by grateful colleagues.
Delivery Suite Sister Saffron Hives was nominated for the award by a colleague whose nomination reads.
“Saffron was in charge during an incredibly busy night shift on labour ward.
During the shift, we had various high-risk patients.
“Throughout the shift, Saffron supported me as an individual but also supported the whole team. When a cardiac arrest call came in, she immediately told the whole team in a calm and reassuring way and allocated members of the team to go and support. She kept in touch with these members of staff, ensuring that they felt supported.
“Saffron was kind to all patients, despite being under a huge amount of stress. She always explained to patients what was going on and treated them with the upmost respect and dignity. She was so kind and was still smiling and reassuring.
“I know that Saffron hasn't been co-ordinating for a long time, but I really admire her ability to be kind to all members of staff, and her support for the whole team and all of the families should not go unnoticed.”
Practice Development Nurse Jessica Jones was also nominated by a colleague with a nomination that reads:
“Jess is a valued member of the team and, over recent months, has been going above and beyond within her role.
“She is a strong team player, offering support of her colleagues and taking on regular additional tasks to ensure the needs of others are met. Jess does this without complaint and is always available to help.
“Jess has undertaken additional training to enhance her ability to support the preceptorship programme (again an additional task to her job description). She challenges, educates and motivates attendees to ensure best practice. This trait is also evident in how she communicates amongst the team.
“Despite the ongoing increased tasks that Jess takes on to ensure sufficient running of the teams, she does so without complaint, and never asks for thanks.
“She frequently offers assistance without expecting reciprocation. Jess is a joy to work with, a true asset to both teams and we don't know how we would have managed without her of late.”
Director of Nursing Robin Binks said: “Leadership is often about being a role model for your colleagues and taking on responsibility for supporting both them and your patients.
“Both Saffron and Jessica have absolutely done that as their nominations show.
“We were very pleased and proud to present them with their internationally recognised DAISY Leader awards.”
