Children’s Mental Health week: Book donation
Reading is fundamental - from adventures through looking glasses and wardrobes to picture books with wild things or marmalade eating bears, we all remember those books we read as a child.
The good folk at Corby based FMH Conveyors have donated a large selection of books to Skylark – our children’s ward.
Emma, HR director from FMH Conveyors visited Skylark along with Sonic the Hedgehog to deliver the books to the ward.
“A lot of colleagues have been touched by the care their families received on Skylark, and we wanted to help the children on the ward that maybe going through difficult times"
This week is Children’s Mental Health week – an opportunity to raise awareness and understanding of children's mental health
Louise, Play Specialist on the ward said:
“Coming into an unfamiliar environment - like a hospital - can be worrying and overwhelming for a child or young person. Having these books will help us be able to make sense of their new environment and any emotions they might be experiencing.”
The donated books are themed around emotions and feelings, such as ‘Daisies Dragon’, ‘The Fears You Fear’ and ‘The Problem with Problems’.
Emma added “We're really passionate about Skylark and supporting their patients. Our team suggested donating books and we knew Children’s Mental Health week was coming and that gave us the opportunity select stories about emotions”.
Emma had a special guest with her when visiting the ward – Sonic the Hedgehog:
“We asked our colleagues’ children who their favourite character was – and Sonic was the outstanding winner!”
Our youngest patients loved having Sonic on the ward with them, and we could see they were ready to dive into some new adventures.
Thanks to everyone at FMH Conveyors for their kind donation.
