Birmingham and Midlands Obstetrical and Gynaecological Society Autumn 2023 meeting

We recently held a seminar on behalf of the Birmingham and Midlands Obstetrical and Gynaecological Society (BMOGS). The event was organised Mr Sunil Doshi, a member of BMOGS, and supported by colleagues at KGH.

The purpose of the society is to arrange two annual training and educational meetings which incorporate the latest updates in Obstetrics and Gynaecology; with attendees being made up of specialists from the East and West midlands.

The course was attended by around 120 delegates including Miss Ranee Thaker, President of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG).

The day focused on newer trends in surgery within Obstetrics in Gynaecology. Talks were opened by Mr Ashish Kelkar, Consultant Colorectal surgeon at KGH. Other speakers included Mr Krishen Sieunarine Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at KGH and the RCOG president Ranee Thakar.

Ten trainees from Obstetrics and Gynaecology delivered excellent oral abstracts, these included two presentations from KGH trainees, along with Dr Happiness Aikhuele and Dr Thivya Sritharan-Dravid.

Attendee feedback from the day was that the meeting was educational, valuable and “brilliant” (A comment made by many of those attending).

The day was concluded with dinner at Kettering Golf Club.

The next BMOGS event, due in 2024 will take place in Dudley in the west midlands. We feel honoured to have been able to host such a prestigious event.
