Our Director of Nursing and Quality joined our housekeeping team to learn more about their role in a back-to-the-floor exercise.
Our Housekeeping staff do a fantastic job in keeping our hospital clean and safe for our patients, the public and our staff.
Today the team were able to show Leanne Hackshall our Director of Nursing and Quality their hard work.
Leanne joined members of the team to help them complete their duties today as part of a back-to-the-floor exercise.
“What the team do is part and parcel of their working lives” said Suerina Marlow, Assistant Head of Facilities Housekeeping. “Our housekeepers want to show other colleagues and members of the public what’s involved in their day to day activity”
Leanne joined the team for a chat about their roles and any feedback they had. Leanne was also there to take any questions the team had on aspects of developments within the Trust.
“I really want to show Leanne what it’s like to be part of the housekeeping team at KGH. We’re going to show her the A-Z of cleaning!” said Christine one of our experience staff members.
Leanne visited several departments; beginning with Lorraine on Deene B. Followed by joining Elaine on Lamport Ward and finally working with Claire, Carolyn and Christine in the Emergency Department.
“What an amazing team! They are all so dedicated and committed to getting the cleaning right for our patients” said Leanne.
“The team were open and honest with me about their time here, especially during COVID. They were almost a hidden workforce, doing this essential work during these times”.
While on the wards and departments Leanne undertook a number of cleaning duties from cleaning loos, mopping floors and scrubbing underneath the beds.
“I’d be happy to do this again” said Leanne “The biggest housekeeping tip I learned today was – bring in knee pads. There’s a lot of time spent cleaning underneath equipment”.
