An open letter on Children's Services at Kettering General Hospital

Dear families,

We are seeking your views to help us improve our children’s services at Kettering General Hospital.

Our teams come to work to offer our patients the best care possible and many patients do receive good care. However, as we have engaged more with patients and colleagues and reviewed previous cases, it has become clear to us that sometimes the treatment and care families receive has not been good enough. We have made mistakes, and haven't always listened and learned from them as we should have. We apologise to anyone who has not received the best care from us.

In the autumn of 2024, our leadership team took further action, launching a full review of our children’s services. Working with our healthcare partners we made immediate changes, and our teams are now focused on making all of the necessary improvements. we’d like to thank them for their efforts so far – they have already delivered changes that enhance our services.

However, some changes, such as improving the way our teams work together on sepsis management, take time to implement properly. You have our commitment that we will get this right - not just making changes but embedding them.

The voices of the families who use our services, who have used our services and who will use our services are crucial to our improvements. We are learning, we are listening, and your views are vital in helping us deliver the best care experience.

Please get in touch with us if you or a loved one has recently been in our care and would like to be involved in helping make our services the ones our patients, their families, and our teams deserve.
