Fotheringhay (Gynaecology)

Is an inpatient ward for women experiencing gynaecological and or early pregnancy complications. Women attend the service following assessment by our Gynaecology team either as an Emergency admission via A&E, Gynaecology Outpatient appointment or Gynaecology same day emergency care unit or as a planned admission for elective surgery.

Our Team

Our team consists of consultants, registrars, doctors. The unit is led by a head of nursing / midwifery and a matron.
 
The ward team includes a ward sister and a deputy sister, nurses, healthcare assistants and a ward clerk. With the support of early pregnancy sonographers gynaecology cancer nurse specialists and bereavement midwives.

Information for patients

We pride ourselves on giving individualised patient care, we have adopted a 'listen to me' campaign on the ward which is there to support our patients and relatives, encouraging them to voice any concerns they may have. Our patient experience feedback is excellent, all patient feedback is welcomed, to drive service improvement.

We have protected meal times; this helps to encourage the nutrition and well being of our patients.

We have a patient review and consultant ward round daily.  To streamlined discharge to home; all patients assessed as ready to go home. Will normally be transferred from the ward to the hospital discharge lounge.  

Mobiles phones can be used on the ward with discretion and respect for other patients in the bay.

Please do not to bring any valuables in hospital with you, all valuables will remain the responsibility of the patient.

Willow Ward

Gynaecology planned (elective) procedures are based in Willow Ward.  It can be found on the ground floor of Rockingham Wing.

Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) Unit Gynaecology 

The unit provides assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for emergency patients on the same day, allowing them to go home without an overnight hospital stay. It is based on the 4th floor of the main hospital building.
