Nursing Team

The Colorectal Nursing Team are a team of experienced Clinical Nurse Specialists and a Support Worker.  Working closely with the Colorectal Surgeons as well as other members of the multi-disciplinary team i.e. Radiologists, Pathologists and Dietitians.

The team will support patients and families at all stages from initial diagnosis, to undergoing treatment and surgery, if required.  We support decision making about care, treatment and follow up arrangements.  We are available to see patients at their initial outpatient appointment and whilst they are on the ward post operatively.

We act as a keyworker who is an accessible professional to oversee and co-ordinate services, personalise patient pathways and guide them through a complex journey advocating on patient’s behalf.  We liaise closely with other care providers for those patients who have a complex diagnosis.

Once all treatments are completed the Colorectal Nurse Specialist will monitor patients in our nurse led clinics.  The nurse led service offers outpatient appointments face to face or via the telephone.  The clinics involve monitoring, with CT scan, colonoscopies and a blood test. 

Symptom management and holistic needs are addressed with the necessary signposting to other services.
