A step-by-step guide to breast screening

This guide will explain the steps involved in having a breast screening x-ray (mammogam).  Breast screening team outside mobile unit

Step 1

Eligible women aged between 50 up to their 71st birthday will be invited for breast screening once every 3 years. You will be offered an appointment at either Kettering General Hospital or on one of our mobile screening units.

Step 2

A female member of staff will check your details and ask you some questions about your breasts when you arrive at your appointment, they will also explain to you how the mammogram (breast x-ray) is taken.

A female member of staff will take the mammogram (breast x-ray), this maybe uncomfortable but only lasts a few seconds.

Step 4

Two Trained film readers check the mammogram images for any changes in your breast tissue. You should receive your results in writing within 2 weeks. If an appointment is missed you will receive a letter asking you to arrange another appointment.
