Volunteering
Volunteers play an important role within Kettering General Hospital and they work alongside our substantive members of staff. Our Volunteers come from all walks of life with diverse backgrounds, skill set and experience. There are many roles a Volunteer can take on within the trust for example meeting and greeting patients to supporting staff with administration.

Hello my name is Christine, and I am the Volunteer Manager at KGH. I previously worked in the voluntary sector for 13 years for a disabilities charity, before joining the Trust in Summer 2019. KGH is a fabulous place to work and volunteer – everyone is very much an integral part of the KGH family. I did find there was much to learn about how the NHS and KGH works, but the family vibe made that much easier – colleagues would always help. My goals here are around continuing to develop the volunteering team, and increasing both the diversity and number of volunteering roles. Volunteering is a fabulous opportunity to give back to your local NHS services, and to support members of your local community. My name is Esele Okondo and I am a volunteer at Kettering General Hospital. The reason I wanted to start volunteering was to make a difference. The NHS and the staff working within it do so much for each and every one of us on a day to day basis and I wanted to support them in any way I could, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. I enjoy supporting healthcare workers with my volunteering role and I complete a variety of tasks during each shift which enables hospital staff to focus their efforts elsewhere. Furthermore, when I am older, I want to be a doctor and I am applying to medical school during the coming months. Volunteering at the hospital places me within a medical setting in which I can learn from the people around me and collate valuable experience as well as skills which I can use long into the future. I am passionate about my volunteering role and have enjoyed every second of my experience with KGH, it has been a real eye-opener for me.
