Northampton Community Diagnostic Centre - Kings Heath

Northampton Community Diagnostic Centre - Kings Heath
A new Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) is opening soon adjacent to the King Heath General Practice in Northampton. Inside there will be MRI and CT scans as well as Echocardiograms and Ultrasound equipment. This will reduce the need to visit the hospital when this diagnostic equipment is needed. This will help with earlier diagnosis of conditions such as cancer and heart disease, and help patients access the life-saving treatments they need quickly.

The proposed Kings Heath CDC belongs to a wider government plan to help tackle diagnostics waiting time backlogs and speed-up vital care for local patients.

The aim is to get the Kings Heath CDC up and running by the end of 2024.

The CDCs in Northamptonshire will be run by the University Hospitals of Northamptonshire NHS Group, and the NHS Northamptonshire Integrated Care Board will oversee the work.

The CDC will provide services including:
• Imaging services for MRI and CT located externally to the GP practice
• Echocardiography and Ultrasound located within the GP practice building.

The aims of the CDC are:
• Improve population health outcomes by earlier diagnoses of significant health conditions
• To increase diagnostic capacity in terms of workforce, facilities and equipment
• To improve productivity and efficiency of diagnostic activity.
