Hospital currently very busy 10-07-2018

A&E sign in Outpatients foyer

We are currently very busy - both in A&E and across the hospital - and are concentrating our efforts on our most seriously ill patients.

This means people who are not seriously ill may wait longer than normal to be seen.

We advise anyone who doesn’t require emergency care to instead go to their Pharmacist, GP, to phone NHS111, or consider accessing the Corby Urgent Care Centre, instead of going direct to A&E.

The recent hot weather is having some impact on A&E attendance and we have experienced many unwell older people with medical conditions who are also dehydrated. There are also many children and adults with minor limb injuries related to playing outside, gardening, DIY etc.

While the next few days may be cooler continued hot weather is forecast we anticipate that we will continue to have high emergency care demand for the next week.

If you have a relative or friend in hospital at the moment who is about to be discharged we would really appreciate your support in making this happen as soon as possible – as it releases a bed for another patient who may be waiting in A&E.

Be sensible in the sun remember to drink lots of water, (and encourage elderly relatives to do the same) stay covered up and use high factor sunscreen to avoid burning, and avoid extreme exertion.

Seek medical attention from your GP if you have a long term condition and are feeling unwell.

Thank you for your support. Please share this message with family and friends.
