22nd Pregnancy and Baby Road Show Date: 07.03.11

A pregnancy and baby road show is being held at Kettering General Hospital to help hundreds of parents-to-be to prepare for their big day and subsequently care for their baby.

The event, the 22nd in 14 years, will provide a huge range of advice at more than 30 stalls set up in two rooms in the hospital's social club recreation hall.

The event is led by the Trust’s community midwives from Kettering, Corby, Wellingborough and East Northants supported by Sure Start Children Centre midwives, health visitors, breast feeding midwives, aqua-natal midwives, and the Supervisors of Midwives.

Show organiser Julie Clark - who is also a community midwife - said the free event is always very well received by parents and parents-to-be from across North Northamptonshire.

She said: “The idea is the road show is that it offers new and updated information, all in one place, about every aspect of having and caring for a baby and young child.

“People will be able to find out about everything from water births, aqua natal exercise classes to baby massage and yoga.

“Other areas covered include, essential baby equipment and real nappies, reflexology and the new Mum To Mum Breastfeeding Peer Support Service.

Other stands will include music therapy for babies, swimming for mums and new babies, and alternative forms of pain relief in labour.

Julie said: “Every year the pregnancy and baby road show seems to go from strength to strength as more people find out about it and we are hoping for a good turnout.”

The event is on from 6pm-8pm in the hospital Social Club's recreation hall, and in an adjoining room to allow more space for people to browse around the exhibitions.

The free event is on Wednesday, March 9. Look for the signs at the mini roundabout near the main Rothwell Road entrance to the hospital.
