We strive to provide the best standard of healthcare for our customers over a wide area. KGH works closely with Northamptonshire Teaching Primary Care Trust (the PCT), who are our main commissioners (currently responsible for 94% of the Trusts income). The PCT arranges the healthcare for everyone in Northamptonshire and a Local Delivery Plan (LDP) is in place which is an agreement between KGH and the PCT regarding the services and standard of care to be provided by this Foundation Trust to its Community. The Trust has in place a Service Level Agreement where the executive have agreed the financial, activity and quality schedules with the PCT.
The only other Primary Care Trust commissioning our service is Leicestershire County and Rutland Primary Care Trust.
The Trust works closely with Local Councils regarding service provision, these are our Stakeholder Partners. Local Councils have nominated representatives to sit on our Council of Members so they have a voice in the service provision for their local communities.

At a local level NHS care is split broadly into two categories – primary and secondary care.
Primary Care
Primary Care Trusts (PCTs) are directly responsible for ensuring there are enough local General Practitioners (GPs) to provide for the needs of the local population. They fund and plan services and aim to improve the health of the local population.
Nene Commissioning represent 61 GP practices in Northamptonshire. This structure enables the individual needs of each locality to be met, whilst at the same time allowing each locality to benefit from cross-consortia service developments. They work closely with the PCT to provide the best healthcare possible to our community.
The PCT work closely with NHS East Midlands, who are the key link to the Department of Health. EMSHA ensure that national priorities, such as programmes for improving cancer services are integrated into local plans.
The PCT is the organisation responsible for planning and overseeing health services for approximately 680,000 people living in Northamptonshire. The PCT have local agreements with healthcare providers to ensure the population of Northamptonshire receive the best service possible, these include KGH, Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust (NGH) and Northamptonshire Healthcare Trust. The PCT produce a Local Delivery Plan.
Secondary Care – Acute Hospitals and Community Healthcare Trusts
In Northamptonshire secondary care is provided by two “acute” general hospitals (KGH and NGH) and one community heath care trust (NHT).
The two general hospitals provide diagnostic, medical, surgical and emergency care for the whole of Northamptonshire. KGH broadly serves the north of the county while NGH serves mainly the south.
The PCT provide some services from KGH including Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy.
Mental Health, rehabilitation and disability services are provided across the county by Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.
Other Health Services
There are some services which have been developed by the NHS to serve the needs of the whole population of Britain. For example if you need instant advice on a health matter you may phone NHS Direct (detailed below). Also if you need a particularly specialised health service you may be asked to travel outside of Northamptonshire in order to receive that care.
Some healthcare providers send patients to KGH for treatment.

NHS Direct – offers fast and free 24-hour advice about personal health care. NHS Direct nurses aim to provide callers with the advice and reassurance they need to care for themselves at home or, if they need further help, to direct them quickly to the right service at the right time. If a condition is more serious, and in the case of emergencies, nurses can give quick advice on what action the caller should take and if appropriate will call an ambulance.
