Equality Impact Assessments

The purpose of conducting equality impact assessments is to determine the extent to which the Trust’s policies, procedures and functions culminate in excellent outcome and positive experience for patients, carers, and staff. This is so regardless of the person’s diverse background (categorised by race, gender, age, disability, sexual orientation, religion and religious beliefs and people living in areas of high deprivation).

The impact assessments help us to identify areas where we are doing well and areas we need to improve. They also assist us in addressing any gaps we have identified.

Positive Outcome Model of Equality Impact Assessment

The Trust’s model of impact assessment is based on the journey of patients using the NHS Services. The premise is that all patients, regardless of their diverse background, should receive the right support / provision in order to receive good and equitable access, outcome and experience from the NHS.  The model enables hospital staff to ascertain the extent to which this is being achieved for a specific, policy, procedure or function of the Trust. In addition, it enables the staff to identify any gaps in support / provision and take actions to address them. The model is also applicable to members of the public, carers and hospital staff receiving good and equitable access, outcome and experience from the NHS.  The benchmarks of good practice associated with the model are shown in the document below.
